Aman Center concludes the first child protection pavilion in Qatar Mall

Preamble:

Protection and Social Rehabilitation Center (Aman), one of the affiliated centers of Qatar Foundation for Social Work, concluded the three-day interactive pavilion of the Electronic Games Lab for children at Qatar Mall, coinciding with the International Children's Day and celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The interactive pavilion will be relocated in children's gathering areas on various occasions with the aim of spreading awareness about the effects of electronic games.

Interactive pavilion 'Electronic Games Lab'

The interactive pavilion for children entitled 'Electronic Games Lab' has been designed in an attractive and distinctive way. Where the children go through a number of challenges and experiences,  the child passes several stages in the pavilion, each one of them simulates the experience of an electronic game for long hours and interactively show the results of play on  his weight, health, behavior, mind and sight followed by the distribution of gifts to children.

Aim:

The interactive pavilion of the Electronic Games Lab aims at enhancing the safety of children and providing them with the necessary protection.

A recent Qatari study, targeting more than 1,000 children, was conducted as follows:

• 85% of children play electronic games daily and for hours

• 56% play online via the Internet (ONLINE), and with anonymous people

• 60% suffer from negative behavioral changes (like violence and anger) and health (like obesity and visual impairment).

Hence the idea that the children today are considered the cornerstone of society, the pavilion has been well received by children and parents, who expressed their admiration for the idea of the pavilion and its goal. The child must distinguish between positive and negative behavior while using electronic games.

Dr. Mansour Al-Saadi: The first unique child protection pavilion

Dr. Mansour Al Saadi Al Yafei, Executive Director of Aman Center, said: The Electronic Gaming Lab Pavilion is the first unique one to show the positive and Negative aspects of children's use of electronic games.

Through the studies that have been conducted, more than 85% of children play electronic games on daily basis for many hours. We at Aman Center would like to deliver an awareness message to children to make them aware of the negative dangers that may occur when using electronic games such as violent behaviors, anger and other health effects such as obesity and visual impairment. Children are one of the most important segments of society as they are the future generation and they are the future of the State.

Therefore, preserving and sensitizing them is a fundamental goal that efforts must be concerted  by everyone to achieve it.

Mrs. Maha Al Mannai: Achieving safety for the child is our goal and is always the focus of our attention

For her part, Ms. Maha Al Mannai, Head of Programs Production Department at Aman Center, said that the center is keen to produce several projects and activities under for "Safe Childhood Program", where the center provides all the basic requirements to support and protect children.

The idea of producing this interactive pavilion where the child is exposed to an experience through which they recognize the negative dangers of using electronic games, so achieving safety for the child is always our goal and the focus of our attention'

Hamian Al-Misnad: Creating programs and activities suitable for children

The aim of the center is to educate the child and protect him from any harm that may occur, so we are keen to creat programs and activities suitable for the child, such as the idea of the electronic games lab pavilion as we were keen on making an  attractive and distinctive designe for the child During the choice of color, shape and simple phrases to be easy for the child, it enables him to understand the message in a simplified and firmly in mind. At Aman Center, we seek to implement future projects in the interest of our target groups of women and children.

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC)

In 1989, world leaders made a historic commitment to the world's children by adopting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child as children under the age of 18 often needed special cares. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) is a legally-binding international agreement setting out the civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights of every child, regardless of their race, religion or abilities.

In 1995, the Emiri Decree was issued approving the accession of the State of Qatar to the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Convention has achieved universal acceptance It has so far been ratified by 193 parties, The Convention contains 54 articles and two protocols. (Children's survival and development) Every child has the right to survive. The state must do all it can to make sure children survive and develop to the full extent possible, protection from violence, abuse and neglect, full participation in the family and cultural and social life.

World Children's Day:

The celebration of World Children's Day comes every year because the states are keen on establishing a world day for children, which is celebrated as a day of fraternity and understanding on a global scale among children.
